A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT: NEW INITIATIVE
Office of the President
June 15, 2021
I want to welcome us all to a new day for Valley Scholars College Initiative, and am excited to share some news regarding our wonderful organization.
Effective today, Valley Scholars College Initiative will undertake the Fellows Prioritization Initiative, a strategic plan developed through an extensive collaborative planning process by the Board of Directors and senior officers of the organization to improve the efficiency of the organization and staffing capacities, increase the impact of the Office of Programs in a manner that more deeply and robustly support students, and maintain strong programmatic development.
As announced to the volunteer staff in a previous communication, our office responsibilities will shift as follows:
The Office of the President will remain the office primarily responsible for culture, strategy, and oversight of the organization. The office will add the responsibility of impact assessment to their oversight responsibilities. The office will fully shift development responsibilities to the Office of Advancement. The Office of the President will now consist of Julián Aguilar, President, and Emilio Mendoza, Special Assistant and Secretary to the Board.
The Office of Programs will consolidate existing programmings into one singular program: the Fellows Program. This is in preparation for the expansion of the Valley Scholars program to a new Beyond Scholars program that will serve the rest of the state of California. The Office of Programs will move to only providing the Fellows Program as a VSCI program starting today, which will evolve into the Valley Scholars program. The 2023 cohort of the Valley Scholars and Beyond Scholars programs will commence in January 2022, with recruitment efforts beginning in October 2021. Planning for the Beyond Scholars program rollout will commence in July 2021. The Office of Programs will now consist of Lauren Machado, Vice President of Programs, Alexa Valladolid, Director of College Fellows, Alondra Herrera, Director of Student Fellows, ilia mahns, Director of Program Operations, Noah Doty, Director of Communications, and Kyra Johnson, Volunteer.
The Office of Advancement will become the primary office responsible for the development efforts of the organization. They will also be responsible for the partnerships of the organization. The Office of Advancement will now consist of Brandon Harden, Vice President of Advancement, and Parisa Jahangirizadeh, Volunteer.
The Office of Operations will remain the office primarily responsible for human resources and internal technology. They will become the primary office responsible for the fiscal affairs of the organization. The Office of Operations will consist of Jordan Mallach, Director of Human Resources.
We are excited for our volunteer staff and the new roles that they will embark on and the achievements that we as a team will make for our Valley community, and quite soon, the wider California community.
With gratitude and in community,
Julián Aguilar (he/they)
