A Message from the President: Our Values

Office of the President

November 3, 2020

Dear all,

I hope you are all doing well, and find yourselves and your families in good mental and physical health. Though I'm excited to share with you updates from the organization, I write to you all acknowledging the turmoil and chaos across the United States. This is a troubling time in our society as we grapple with uncertainty throughout the country.

Firstly, I wish to reaffirm to our community that Valley Scholars College Initiative is a place that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion. We, as individuals and a collective, dedicate ourselves to promoting college access and equity for all students, and in particular to students often underrepresented and unsupported.  Our work is more important than ever, and we reaffirm to our community these principle values.

As an organization, we are making tremendous strides. We are currently undergoing massive organizational and system changes, all to best support our students and community. We are strengthening our mission, vision, and core values. We are expanding our reach and opening our arms to community partnerships. We are launching new programs. We're moving the needle forward on college access and educational equity in the Valley.

In concurrence with our 2020 Initiatives, I will continue to deepen my commitment to this community. Starting November 15th, my "open hours" will be made public and all community members are invited to schedule appointments with me. To schedule your appointment, please visit ("Open Hours" will be added at the beginning of each month, so stay tuned for more available times.) It is my hope that this forum serves as an opportunity for the organization to continue its bridge-building throughout our community.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel more than free to reach out to me via email at

In community,

Julián Aguilar
